World Youth Skill Day 2023

World Youth Skill Day 2023

World Youth Skill Day is celebrated every year on July 15th to raise awareness about equipping young people with essential skills for employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. In 2023, the significance of this day has grown even more profound as the world faces unprecedented challenges that require adaptable and skilled youth to navigate the evolving job market. With its vast young population, India has recognized its youth’s potential, and numerous companies have taken commendable Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to foster skill development and empower the youth.

The theme and its significance

The theme for World Youth Skill Day 2023 is “Skilling teachers, trainers, and youth for a transformative future.” This theme highlights the essential role that teachers, trainers, and other educators play in providing skills for youth to transition to the labor market and to engage in their communities and societies actively.

The significance of this theme is that it recognizes the importance of skills development for young people in today’s rapidly changing world. The world of work is becoming increasingly complex and demanding. And young people need to be equipped with the skills they need to succeed.

Teachers, trainers, and other educators are vital in providing young people with these skills. They can help young people to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to find good jobs, start their businesses, and be active citizens.

Indian Companies Leading Youth Skilling Initiatives

India is home to the world’s largest youth population, with over 600 million people under 25. This presents a huge opportunity for the country to tap into the potential of its youth and build a skilled workforce for the future.

However, many young people in India lack the skills to succeed in the job market. This is due to several factors, including poverty, lack of access to education, and gender discrimination.

To address this challenge, Indian companies are taking the lead in skilling the youth. These companies offer a variety of training programs, from vocational to soft skills training. They are also working with government agencies and NGOs to provide access to training for young people from marginalized communities.

Some of the Indian companies that are taking the lead in skilling the youth include:

~ Infosys is running a program called “Infosys Foundation Youth Skilling Program.” This program provides training to young people in rural areas in India.

~ HCL Technologies is running a program called “HCL Skilling for Life.” This program trains young people in India in various skills, including IT, engineering, and healthcare.

~ L&T Technology Services is running an “L&T Skill Development Program.” This program trains young people in India in various engineering, manufacturing, and IT skills.

These are just a few examples of the many Indian companies taking the lead in skilling the youth. These companies play a vital role in helping to build a skilled workforce for India’s future.

In addition to these companies’ CSR initiatives, The Indian government has launched skill development programs like PMKVY and NSM to train 500 million people by 2022. These initiatives partner with companies’ CSR efforts to create a skilled workforce for India’s future.

World Youth Skill Day is important to raise awareness about the importance of skills development for young people. Through various CSR initiatives, companies contribute to skill development, create sustainable livelihoods. It also enhances employability prospects for young individuals and NGOs to provide training for young people from marginalized communities. These efforts play a vital role in helping to build a skilled workforce for India’s future. It is imperative to recognize and applaud the commitment shown by Indian companies toward empowering the youth and building a skilled workforce for a prosperous future.
