Mohan Yadav, a prominent Indian politician, assumed office as the 19th Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on December 13, 2023. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and he has long served as a Member of Parliament in the state assembly, representing the Ujjain South constituency. He came into the spotlight when he was appointed as the state’s Chief Minister. He has an impressive academic background and a spotless reputation and is affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Born on March 25, 1965, in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Yadav is highly educated and holds degrees in B.Sc, LLB, MA, MBA, and a PhD from Vikram University, Ujjain. Married to Seema Yadav, he is a proud father of two sons and a daughter. His political journey started as a student leader in 1982 at Madhav Science College, Ujjain. Successfully contesting assembly elections in 2013, he retained his seat in 2018 and 2023, serving as an MP for two consecutive terms. Notably, he assumed the role of cabinet minister for higher education in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government from 2020 to 2023.
Mohan Yadav stands as a prominent figure in Ujjain and Madhya Pradesh, celebrated for his outstanding contributions to social welfare and local development. His life’s mission revolves around the upliftment of the community, manifested through initiatives such as running hospitals and schools at affordable costs. He is committed to nurturing the future of those in need. With a vision of making Madhya Pradesh a cultural epicentre, he actively promotes the state’s rich heritage. In 2021, he introduced the Ramcharitmanas Pathshala in government colleges, offering it as an optional subject to instil spiritual values. Beyond state boundaries, he also showed his dedication to cultural upliftment through his support for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
MP CM’s notable achievements include being honoured by the President of India in 2011-12 and 2012-13 for his commendable efforts in promoting tourism within the state. His dedication to enhancing the tourism sector reflects a clear vision where the MP government will work to boost the economy and showcase the cultural richness of the region. The new cabinet is also expected to focus on strategic policies and initiatives aimed at overall development and prosperity for the state.
In a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Yadav, along with two deputy chief ministers, took the oath. Addressing his vision for the state, he expressed his commitment to following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s developmental ethos and working tirelessly for Madhya Pradesh’s progress and the well-being of its residents.
His overarching goal is to elevate Madhya Pradesh to a leading position across diverse domains. His agenda encompasses ensuring good governance, promoting transparency, empowering marginalised sections, promoting the state’s rich culture and heritage, safeguarding the environment and natural resources, and promoting youth employment and entrepreneurship.
Post the oath-taking ceremony, Yadav conveyed his joy and extended congratulations to fellow cabinet ministers, envisioning the dawn of a Golden Age for Madhya Pradesh through collaborative efforts. He emphasised that, collectively, through cooperation, hard work, and dedication, the journey of purposeful development and public welfare would find its significant dimension.
