Coal has been a significant energy source in India, accounting for 55 percent of energy usage in the country. However, with the increasing awareness of the harmful impact of fossil fuels on the environment and public health, it has become essential to make proper and informed use of coal to secure our future. The state manages and distributes coal in India, with Coal India Limited (CIL) and its eight subsidiaries managing production and distribution.
CIL subsidiaries like South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) have a significant role in promoting sustainable development and mitigating the harmful impact of fossil fuels. These initiatives demonstrate the company’s commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare facilities to people living in remote areas. It has spent more than Rs 700 crore on various developmental works under CSR in the last eight years. Out of Rs 700 crore, about Rs 500 crore has been spent in Chhattisgarh.
