Reliance Foundation has paced up the programme to feed the marginalised and unprivileged societies across the Nation by offering around 30 million meals. Reliance Foundation’s meal distribution programme is called as ‘Mission Anna Seva’ that emerged as the largest initiative by a corporate foundation across the globe. Over 20 million meals have already been distributed in 16 states and one union territory.
In response to the massive monstrous crisis caused by the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown, Reliance Foundation, the benevolent part of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), has expanded the programme to feed and take care of the minimized and under-resourced networks in 68 districts across 16 states and a union territory.
The beneficiaries of Mission Anna Seva encompass daily wage earners, slum dwellers, urban service providers, factory workers, and residents of old-age homes and orphanages. Recently, Reliance Foundation founder-chairperson Nita Ambani shared a letter with over 2 lakh Reliance colleagues stating, “COVID-19 is an unprecedented pandemic for the world, India and humanity. As India enters an extended period of lockdown, our hearts go out to all those Indians who depend on daily wages for their next meal. They too are members of our Parivar — our own Bharat Parivar. That is why, at Reliance Foundation, we have launched Mission Anna Seva – our pledges.”
Under this initiative, apart from cooked meals, Reliance Foundation is also offering ready-to-eat food packets and dry ration kits to families and bulk ration to community kitchens. It is constantly cooking meals and distributing to frontline workers such as medical workers, police personnel, and security forces. At a few locations, the company is also offering food tokens which could be redeemed at Reliance Retail outlets.
Additionally, Reliance in partnership with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has built India’s first 100-bed exclusive COVID-19 hospital in Mumbai in just two weeks and is now expanding the facility to a capacity of 250 beds.
