Sometimes some gestures surprise us to the extent of shock, especially when they come from unexpected sources.
Right? Don’t be surprised if we call you stereotype here. One of us, we are all alike.
Anyway!
Talking about protests of NGOs, they have attracted the attention of commoners and media on social evils’ matters, like always, but united efforts of numerous individuals are stronger than a protest. Social boycott and policy adoption are those two rare cases, which have recently been witnessed in most controversial states of India when it comes to child marriage and female foeticide, i.e. Rajasthan and Haryana respectively.
Surprised?
Well, that surprising element also contributes towards stereotyping the states more and we don’t blame you or us for this kind of perception that we have developed during our growing-into-a-human phase. And that’s great if you haven’t stereotyped royal land and land of sports. You’ve grown well, unlike most of us!
But those, who need another awakening (like us) need to be equipped with recent scenario, which is changing around us. Like the news came in a few days ago that 47,000 tent dealers in Rajasthan are checking birth certificates of bride and groom, to ensure that nobody is a child. This measure is collaboratively taken by “Rajasthan Tent Dealers Kiraya Vavshya Samiti”, who wants to curb the social diseases like child marriage.
This kind of unity signifies the true spirit of being Indian, who can fight against all the odds and build a better society. Those 47,000 tent dealers of Rajasthan have a conscience about right and wrong and they want to make sure that this Akha Teej nobody dares to wed their children and burden them with responsibilities of such a relationship, which doesn’t come under the periphery of their understanding.
Coming to Rajasthan, the controversial organisation of Haryana, Khap Panchayat, can also establish a trend and Khap Panchayat in Jind district of Haryana gathered the courage to take such initiative against female foeticide and dowry in their home turf, which is fetching a round of applause for Khap.

Known as Bura Khap, the rural group came up with ‘steps to be followed by parents of daughter/s’ policy, which includes:
No more children after two daughters- parents of those daughters will be honoured with some kind of reward if they follow the policy.
Dowry of Re. 1- felicitation of families will be done who would be blessed to give and accept Re 1 as dowry, who wants to continue the same just for the sake of “shagun”.
21 people’s wedding- “because too many baraatis puts an unnecessary financial burden on the bride’s family, this initiate was much needed to be taken, says Rajbir Bura, the head of Bura Khap.
These kinds of initiatives make everybody believe that yes, we can change and make a better India, only if we have a strong will power and determination to curb social evil practices in our society.
Let’s show our support to Rajasthan Tent Dealers Kiraya Vavshya Samiti and Bura Khap, who are already setting an ideal example, and why setting, who are Being an ideal and living example for us, to seek inspiration and change the perspective towards certain things.
