To support the district administration, the government, and the local community to fight against Covid-19, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) has continued its multi-dimensional intervention ever since the pandemic began to catch hold of the nation.

In its official statement, JSPL revealed that under the aegis of Chairperson Smt. Shallu Jindal, the CSR arm of the company, JSPL Foundation has been closely collaborating with the district administration as well as the local people to defeat the pandemic.

From the last four months, JSPL Foundation has been providing food and ration, masks, sanitizers, and soaps to the most vulnerable communities. It has also been working towards creating awareness among people residing in rural areas about various preventive measures that can be taken to curb the spread of Covid-19.

In addition to these initiatives, JSPL has also been taking several measures to create an infection-free safe workplace for its workers and employees by strictly adhering to the Covid-19 prevention protocols and guidelines released by the government.

Inspired by the vision of its Chairman Sh. Naveen Jindal for a hunger-free India, the leading steel manufacturer also launched the ‘Mission Zero Hunger’ programme. The initiative is aimed at supporting the poor and vulnerable by providing them with cooked meals as well as uncooked food grains.

Sine 29th March, JSPL Foundation has provided over 10,200 meals to street dwellers. The foundation has also provided about 13,800 cooked meals to the stranded truck drivers and migrant workers during the nationwide lockdown.

In order to facilitate better protection of local communities, JSPL Foundation also distributed more than 1,10,000 sterilized masks. These masks were prepared by the members of self-help groups promoted by the JSPL Foundation. In a similar fashion, more than 25,000 people were also provided with sanitizers. The foundation also distributed about 15,000 pieces of soaps to promote better hygiene.

While ensuring access to cooked food and dry rations for the migrant workers and other vulnerable communities, JSPL foundation has also been working to equip the local community and frontline corona warriors with protective equipment. The initiatives by JSPL Foundation have received appreciation from Angul District Administration as well as Odisha State Disaster Management Authority.

The two-pronged strategy adopted by JSPL Foundation to protect the community and provide a livelihood to women associated with self-help groups has ensured enhanced cash access to hundreds of rural women amid the wage crunch situation that prevails.
