JobsNearby – Champion of the blue collar worker

While there is no dearth of job registries and portals for ‘white-collar jobs, blue-collar jobs suffer from a lack of representation on the digital platform. Blue-collar jobs are often perceived as sub-standard or not warranting online exposure by many, leading to an underrepresentation of such jobs. Aptly named JobsNearby, the platform was launched on International Workers Day on May 1, 2020.

With the onset of the pandemic, many employees were let go as a financial crunch hit companies everywhere. Jobs Nearby: For unemployed workers

Recognizing the severity of the situation, fintech startup PayNearby, created an assisted job registry for such workers to find gainful employment again. Aptly named JobsNearby, the platform was launched on International Workers Day on May 1, 2020. Leveraging a vast network of over 9 lakh retail touch points spread across the country, JobsNearby will connect unemployed workers with employers. Workers can register themselves on the portal and expect to find suitable platforms according to vacancies and employer requirements.

The portal takes advantage of PayNearby’s network and widespread presence in over 17,000 plus pin codes in India. Accordingly, the startup has partnered with multiple partners, including banks, NGOs, foundations, and other organizations to extend its outreach. Banking retail agents are usually the point of contact for these workers, providing them with easy access to withdrawals. Therefore, these agents are being used by the company to reach out to affected workers and offer the services of the portal.

As the after effects of the pandemic are becoming evident of each passing day, PayNearby’s initiative has become an outstanding example of how a company can bring out a positive impact in the lives of millions, often forgotten by the system. Even as India celebrates its 75^th Independence Day, unemployment has reached unprecedented heights. Initiatives like JobsNearby which can help connect unemployed workers to gain employment are the need of the hour.
