Yuvraj Singh bats for education of cancer kids

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh recently attended the Cancer Scholarship Conclave at Pathways School, Gurgaon to lend support to the education of young cancer survivors. Yuvraj spent time with the children, giving away scholarships and sharing his experience of fighting cancer and bouncing back. His dream project, YouWeCan, along with Cankids, is supporting and rewarding some outstanding students who have battled cancer, but now require motivation and support to move forward in life.

Scholarships were given to 51 children for their primary and higher education. Often, families of these cancer patients and survivors exhaust all their savings during the prolonged treatment and are left with little or no money to fund their child’s education. The idea behind the initiative is to support the education of these young cancer patients and survivors belonging to the underprivileged section of society and help them in securing their future.

Lack of money and guidance is a major obstacle for these children. Those who are keen to study are unable to reap the benefits of education. The event is aimed at facilitating a bright and secure future for these young ones fighting cancer and saluting the unflinching spirit of both the patients and their parents, who fight the tough battle together.

The children had an exclusive interaction session with Yuvraj at the event where cancer survivors and their parents discussed their life goals, aspirations and the battle against the disease. Addressing the gathering, Yuvraj said, “I know how rough the journey of cancer is and thus the collaboration with Cankids will ensure that I can support some through funds which can be used in primary and higher education, and will later extend support in medication too.”

Pathways Schools have had a long standing association with Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence to impart professional cricket training to kids of all ages. The school has also supported initiatives by YouWeCan since its inception. Captain Rohit Sen Bajaj, school director, Pathways School, Gurgaon, added, “It is a matter of great honour that we are associated with Yuvraj Singh and the Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence. This is a great testimony to the mutual values, ethics and philosophies we share for the greater good of the underprivileged children. The recent scholarships awarded by Yuvraj Singh at Pathways School, Gurgaon to less fortunate children who are also cancer survivors signals the shared and ongoing effort at uplifting, enriching and inspiring children.” Prasan Jain, director, Pathways School, was also present at the event.
