Wheelin’, dealin’ and healin’: Hindalco launches Healthcare on Wheels initiative

Metal giant Hindalco Industries Limited rolled out a “Healthcare on Wheels” program which will provide ready and accessible healthcare services to the surrounding villages of Hirakud in Odisha.

Located in the Sambalpur district in western Odisha, Hirakud has been the focal point of Hindalco’s previous programs. With this new initiative, Hindalco wants to extend its reach to the adjacent villages of Hirakud. The villages of Gundurupada, Larbhanga, Mahhamadpur, Nua Jamda, Dengimacha, Nua Gujatala, Budhakanta, Gopalapalli, Remed and Larpank will now be visited by a Hindalco Mobile Health Unit (MHU).

The MHU will render services like free healthcare consultation along with free medications for flu, fever, cough, and dehydration among others. The best part of this program is that the villagers will not only receive free treatment but also be attended to at their own doorsteps. Specialized care and medical facilities are often nigh impossible to find around these parts. Hindalco’s mobile healthcare program is a boon for the inhabitants of this region.

Healthcare on Wheels

Along with the healthcare program, Hindalco is also engaged in carrying out COVID sensitization programs in these villages. Earlier this year, the company had coordinated with the Government Hirakud Hospital in organizing an immunization drive for the locals. The drive benefitted over 14,000 villagers along with newborn babies.

According to Kailash Pandey, Cluster Head of Hindalco Hirakud, “There are many people who very lightly take this common flu and fever and other diseases, hence being neglected and got fatal. To cater to this, we have started this initiative of taking the healthcare to their doorstep and address them. As a responsible corporate citizen, we are taking several initiatives in providing better healthcare to people and this is one of them.”

Hindalco is the Aditya Birla Group’s flagship and has a sizeable operation in Hirakud. The company has taken up the initiative to better the lives of the people around its plant, keeping true to its corporate social responsibilities. The company’s vision can be summed up in a statement it released a few months ago which read, “As a responsible corporate citizen and driven by the constant motivation to give it back to society, in Odisha, the Aditya Birla Group reaches out to more than 5 lacs people touching more than 2 lacs people’s lives in the 128 villages of five districts.”
