WhatsApp to conduct Chat for Impact Bootcamp for Indian NGOs

Instant messaging platform WhatsApp is inviting non-profits to register for its two-day Chat for Impact Bootcamp event. The event is being organized by the platform in order to tackle the rising cases of misinformation and fake news.

Taking a stand against growing reports of fake news and misinformation being spread through quick messaging platforms, WhatsApp has decided to hold the boot camp to combat the problem. Even though it is the users who are responsible for spreading baseless facts and misappropriating information, social media platforms have been quick to acknowledge their responsibilities in curbing such behavior.

WhatsApp Bootcamp

The Chat for Impact Bootcamp by WhatsApp will be a part of its CSR activity and will involve over 100 NGOs. The attendees will be trained to utilize the platform for meaningful community engagement activities. The messaging service provider is proactively inviting NGOs that want to use the WhatsApp helpline to sign up for the two-day event. The boot camp will include online sessions, pre-event work, and a follow-up session, apart from other activities.

The community engagement event follows the success of WhatsApp’s recent Chat for Impact Summit which saw the participation of 30 organizations. Simon de Haan, the co-founder of Turn.io which hosted the summit, said that organizations that were serious about a WhatsApp API should register.  “During the Chat for Impact Summit last month, we identified a need for a boot camp to support organizations in India working in COVID-19 relief and other areas impacted by the pandemic, including women’s empowerment and rights, legal rights, and education,” he added.

Turn.io will host the upcoming Chat for Impact Bootcamp, which is scheduled for August 11 and 12. Praekelt.org will partner with WhatsApp in conducting the event which will see 100 organizations receive free virtual training. Additionally, these organizations will receive a free WhatsApp helpline, free Turn.io license for six months, along with 1 lakh free messaging credits, valid until the COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end.
