Vedanta Nand Ghar honored with “CSR Shining Star Award” under Child Development category

Vedanta Limited has recently been honored with the “CSR Shining Star Award” under the category of Child Development for Nand Ghar, which is a flagship corporate social responsibility project by Vedanta Group.

The Honorable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari felicitated Vedanta Limited during an award ceremony organized at the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. He recognized Vedanta’s rigorous efforts towards the holistic development and growth of children and thus contributing towards building a stronger and healthier nation.

“I am honored as well as humbled to receive the award for our Nand Ghars that are transforming the lives of rural women and children across the country. We are committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of eradicating child malnutrition, providing education and healthcare, and empowering rural women through skill development, and Nand Ghar will be the change agent for the same,” said Vedanta Director, Ms Priya Agarwal.

In the year 2015, Nand Ghar, which is a dream project of Vedanta Chairman, Shri Anil Agarwal, was established with an aim to transform the lives of 8.5 crore children and 2 crore women across 13.7 lakh anganwadis.

Fulfilling the purpose of inclusive development of children, women and local communities, Nand Ghar created a network of model anganwadis. They are established in a collaboration with the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development. It has over 2000 centres across 10 Indian states namely, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

For the local communities, Nand Ghars have become a model resource centre. They encompass modern facilities like solar panels to ensure 24 x 7 electricity, water purifiers, clean toilets and smart television sets.

Children between the age group of 3-6 years receive pre-school education along with nutritious meals. Rations are also distributed among children, pregnant and lactating women.

Dow Jones Sustainability Index featured the company and earlier it was also conferred the CII-ITC Sustainability Award.
