Tata Steel BSL to impart self-defence training to 2000 school adolescent girls in Raigad District

In association with the district administration, the Tata Steel BSL, near its plant at Sarvoli in Maharashtra launched a campaign to impart self-defence training to the girls of a local village.

The self-defence training programme was organized with the aim of empowering girl students. Yesterday, the first session was held at Sarnobat Netaji Palkar Sabhagruh office Khalapur on the 160th birth anniversary of the first Chairman of the Tata Steel, Sir Dorabji Tata. Sir Dorabji Tata was instrumental in establishing Tata Steel’s first steel plant of Asia in Jamshedpur.

Around 200 girls of Swami Vivekanand High School, Khalapur participated in the training programme the company in its statement said. The company also roped in the Mumbai based NGO Swayamsidha, which is involved in such training for long.

The company stated that it would give training to every quarter to empower adolescent school girls of Savroli and Devnahave gram panchayats and other nearby Nagar Parishads of Raigad district in the near future.

As Swayamsidha is also an expert in the area of personality development, career counselling, organizing motivational talks, the company said that girls are going to get an additional benefit from the services of the NGO
