As far as plantation of trees, and improving the green cover goes, Mahindra as a firm has emerged on the forefront. Planting 0.95 million (9.5 lakhs) trees in the year 2018-2019, the company has contributed to a total of 16.41 million tree plantation, permeating green initiatives as one of its core CSR objectives.
Focusing on building a greener tomorrow with Mahindra Hariyali, Mahindra with its CSR initiative brought in tree plantations, and support to tribal farmers growing coffee in this region as well.
The annual report submitted by the firm reports Rs 5.75 cr expenditure through its CSR initiatives. As per the annual report, the total amount spent on the project is Rs 5.75 cr through Naandi Foundation and direct implementation through ESOPS.
The states that have been on the agenda included Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat where trees and samplings were implanted.
Considering the total forest cover in India, which accounts for 708,273 sq km (21.54 % of the total area of the country), the Govt. Forest Department state that the sustainable and for balanced climate control would call for a 33% green cover on earth.
Mahindra also recently garnered attention, when it stated that it achieved double its annual goal this year with 2 million sapling plantation. The company also pledged ‘World Environment Day’ the company aims to plant 15 million trees under the aegis of Mahindra Hariyali program.
