In 20 years, Maruti Suzuki trains over 50 lakh drivers

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, through its driving training facilities –Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) and Maruti Suzuki Driving School (MDS) has provided driving training to over 50 lakh aspirants. Maruti Suzuki’s premium driving schools are known for providing state of the art facilities for the driving aspirants.

India’s largest car manufacturer started its driving training initiative to make Indian roads safer to the beginners and existing ones, who are driving private as well as commercial vehicles. Launched in 2000, today there are more than 480 driving schools and 7 IDTRs.

Central to Maruti Suzuki’s CSR initiative lies ‘road safety’, which has resulted in the company taking a number of initiatives to target wide range verticals with respect to road safety management and driving training.

The company runs its ITDR in collaboration with the respective state governments while the company’s dealers manage its MDS. Both the institutes are known for introducing scientifically designed global standards curriculum based on theory as well as practical learning for quality driving training.

MDS mainly focusses on personal car driving while IDTR trains commercial drivers including heavy motor vehicles such as bus and trucks, taxi, forklifts and three-wheelers.

While commenting on the issues, Executive Advisor, CSR, Maruti Suzuki Indian Ltd., Ajay Kumar Tomar said, “The milestone of 50 lakh trainees from Maruti Suzuki driving institutes is a testament of our commitment to road safety. Promoting safe driving is our collective social responsibility, and we urge every responsible citizen to learn the scientific way of driving and focus on technical and behavioural.”

Maruti Suzuki is the biggest car manufacturer in India with over half the overall Indian passenger car market. In the financial year 2018-19, Maruti Suzuki India announced that it had invested INR 154 crore towards CSR activities focusing on community development, road safety and skill development.
