The Melody Behind the Tumultuous Journey to Fame

  • Born on July 25, 2000, in a small town called Benipatti in the Madhubani district of Bihar, Maithili Thakur was introduced to the world of music at a tender age when she used to listen to her grandfather, Pandit Biharilal Thakur, an accomplished musician, sing kirtans, bhajans and ashtakams.
  • She hails from a family with a rich musical heritage, like her grandfather; her father, Ramesh Thakur, is a musician, too.
  • Ramesh Thakur shifted from Bihar to Delhi in 1995 and used to work as a music teacher in Delhi to make ends meet.
  • Since a young age, Maithili has shown remarkable musical talent. She began her classical music training under the guidance of her grandfather and then her father, honing her skills in various vocal styles and ragas.
  • She appeared in various reality show auditions, such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs and Indian Idol Junior. Despite facing failure six times, she did not give up on her dreams and worked hard to pursue her passion for classical music.
  • She participated in the i-genius Young Singing Stars competition, where she gained confidence in her skills after competing with talented singers from across the country.
  • She was invited to the Rising Stars singing competition in 2017, where she gained popularity after securing a position as a runner-up.
  • After coming into the limelight, she decided to dedicate her time to singing Bhojpuri songs for YouTube and also got active on social media to interact with her newfound fanbase.
  • She started uploading videos of traditional folk songs in many regional languages, such as Maithili, Magahi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Rajasthani, and Kesariya Balam, on her YouTube channel, which garnered attention from various audiences.

  • Legendary singer Shankar Mahadevan also appreciated her work, which is yet another testament to her talent.
  • She was also invited to the TEDx Talk in August 2020, which promptly indicates Maithili’s influence extends beyond music.
  • She was awarded the Cultural Ambassador of the Year Award for the year 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the inaugural National Creators Award
