Hyundai Motor America and Amazon join One Tree Planted reforestation initiative

The corporate sector is upping the stakes when it comes to combating climate change. Companies across the board are announcing several initiatives and joining hands with non-profits to ensure effective action.

Hyundai Motor America will partner with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization, to plant 1,50,000 trees across the United States throughout 2022. Hyundai will donate towards the cause and assist in the planned initiative. The partnership kicked off with a tree planting event at the iconic Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

The decision is a part of the Korean automobile giant’s commitment towards sustainability, mitigating climate change impact and advancing its Progress for Humanity vision. Hyundai has already announced its intention to have 23 eco-friendly vehicles globally and one million electric vehicles by 2025, and a fully electrified vehicle lineup by 2040.

Commenting on the tie-up, Hyundai Motor America’s communications officer, Dana W White, said, “Hyundai is committed to the environment and innovative mobility solutions. This means creating a more sustainable future for everyone. It’s critical to take care of our planet and One Tree Planted is a natural partner for us to further this mission.”

Other big names have also launched similar projects. Amazon is partnering with One Tree Planted too. It is leveraging its Alexa virtual app to encourage reforestation efforts. With a simple “Alexa, grow a tree” command, US customers can donate USD1 towards the initiative. Additionally, Amazon will donate USD 1 million towards the planting of one million trees between April and December 2022.

One Tree Planted boasts of an impressive track record when it comes to reforestation. The non-profit has already planted over 40 million trees across 43 countries since 2014. Last year alone, 23.5 million trees were planted according to the group’s official statement. With Hyundai and Amazon on board now, those numbers could be breached in 2022.

Talking about the Hyundai partnership, Matt Hill, Founder & Chief Environmental Evangelist at One Tree Planted, stated that the organization was proud of its working relationship with the car manufacturer. “With Hyundai’s support, we are restoring vital ecosystems and empowering local communities across the United States. As the trees grow, they will combat the effects of climate change and create a brighter future for the next generation,” he added.
