The Indian division of the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, Honda, has joined the on-going COVID-19 relief efforts. Honda India Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of all Honda group companies in India, announced that it would donate Rs 6.5 crore towards relief measures.
The Foundation will work in collaboration with the state governments of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat respectively. The focus will be on providing vital oxygen supply and setting up oxygen plants. Another important aspect will be the establishment of COVID isolation centres.
Work is currently undergoing in Honda’s Manesar warehouse in Haryana to convert it into a 100-bed facility. Similarly, a 50-100-bed facility is being arranged at a government school in Tapukara, Rajasthan. Both the facilities are expected to commence operations very soon.
Setting up of oxygen production is also on the foundation’s cards and it is working diligently with the concerned state governments. The districts of Gautam Budh Nagar (Uttar Pradesh), Kolar (Karnataka), Manesar (Haryana) and Alwar (Rajasthan) are ear-marked for the project.
Local administration in the five states have also received help from the Honda India Foundation in the form of personal protective equipment (PPE), masks, sanitizers and even food packages for front line workers.
Chairman of the Honda India Foundation, Atsushi Ogata said, “This second wave of COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of us adversely. At this hour of need, it is imperative that more individuals and organisations come forward to help in cohesion and we do our best for the community we operate in and for the country, at large.”
He also expressed hope that the efforts of the government as well as other organizations would benefit millions and that the foundation was doing its utmost to collaborate with other stake holders on the ground. “It is time to stand together for each other, with the belief that we will sail through this,” he concluded.
