HGS CSR Head talks about the company’s initiatives during COVID-19 pandemic

Collaborating with the government, NGOs, employees and fellow corporates, Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS) has emerged as a beacon of hope for many amid COVID-19 pandemic. Working with the CSR philosophy of ‘Work to Give’ for a better tomorrow, HGS continues to focus on health, education, skill development and welfare of people with disability (PwD).

In a recent interview, the CSR Head at HGS, Shilpi Sinha Harsh shed some light on the initiatives taken by the company to help the nation emerge victorious in its fight against COVID-19. She revealed that HGS has collaborated with the Karnataka State Government and a few other BPM companies in supporting two of the state government’s critical helpline initiatives.

“One is a 24-hour COVID-19 phone helpline with volunteer agents answering various queries from citizens while the second is Apthamitra, a telemedicine helpline manned by over 50 nurses and doctors. HGS has also donated more than 30,000 reusable masks to the Bengaluru City Police to protect police personnel as they continue to enforce prescribed government guidelines,” the HGS CSR Head said.

Apart from this, HGS has also contributed to the NASSCOM Foundation for the distribution of food and groceries to people who have suffered loss of livelihood across Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Delhi, and the NCR region. HGS is also supporting Hinduja Hospital in purchasing medical equipment and consumables for distribution among the underserved, as well as in setting up isolation wards.

Acknowledging the fact that COVID-19 has changed the way organizations functioned so far, Shilpi Sinha Harsh said that HGS will continue to work as a people-first company, putting the safety and well-being of its employees first. She revealed that the company is operating mostly in remote mode and that CSR was no exception.

“We have initiated several remote volunteering opportunities that have enabled our employees to contribute from the safety of their homes. The channels of communication for these activities have been telephonic conversations, audio recordings, and document creation,” she said.

The HGS CSR Head continued, “As of now HGS volunteers in partnership with our NGO partners have conducted 30 sessions with youth on employability skills, and general knowledge to make them job-ready, and facilitated audio recording school textbooks in Tamil to help students with vision impairment learn.”

The initiatives taken by HGS at a time of unprecedented adversity are truly remarkable. It is organizations like these that are giving people a ray of hope amid the prevailing dark times.
