Emergency healthcare service is the basic need of every citizen. Many countries around the world have developed efficient medical services to deal with medical emergencies. However, India has lagged behind the developed nations in this regard, says Shweta Mangal, former CEO of Ziqitza Healthcare Ltd (ZHL).
Providing quality healthcare service in the second most populous country is not easy. But, the trend has definitely changed in recent years, with the inception of emergency medical providers like Ziqitza Healthcare Ltd, co-founded by Shweta Mangal. The scenario has changed in urban India with improved facilities and infrastructure.
Even after major transformations in the healthcare sector, rural areas have often remained overlooked. With more than 70 per cent of the country’s population living in rural areas, the lack of access to these basic facilities has proven disastrous in the past. However, there is no single authority, which is accountable for restricted access, lack of awareness and limited manpower in these areas.
“Start-ups like Ziqitza Healthcare have worked towards addressing this issue, but a major concern like this, will require a collective effort,” states Shweta Mangal. While the rural areas have been developing gradually, there is a need of having better infrastructural facilities, hospitals, sanitation facilities, etc.
The people living in rural areas are unaware of the growing emergencies and the course of action that needs to be taken. There is a need to educate these people and spread awareness about these issues to establish a better emergency medical service.
“It’s very important for a big country like India to have a proper emergency healthcare system to tackle all kinds of emergencies and save precious lives,” says Shweta Mangal, former CEO of Ziqitza Healthcare Ltd.
A lot has been done in this regard, but a lot needs to be done to ensure that the country’s healthcare system is moving in the right direction.
