How GMR Varalakshmi Foundation is contributing to public health by producing masks and other PPE on daily basis

The Covid-19 pandemic has increased the need for masks and other PPE across the globe, and India is no exception. While the governments have been trying their best to facilitate production of such items, the private organizations have also been contributing globally to prevent the spread and help in breaking the chain and flattening the curve.

GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF), the CSR arm of GMR Group, has also come forward in the fight against coronavirus. The foundation has been producing masks and other PPE as per the requisite safety guidelines. Led by highly committed and skilled women, trained by GMRVF, the mega project is aimed at defending communities and frontline COVID warriors.

While the project is proving to be quite useful in the fight against COVID-19, it is also giving an opportunity to GMRVF women in generating regular income for their families. Collectively, over 600 GMRVF-trained women volunteers are developing masks from their homes or centres, while strictly abiding by all the safety norms in place across the country.

This special project is being ran across various states across the country, including Hyderabad, Delhi, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Andra Pradesh, etc. Already, more than 65,000 masks have been distributed to the frontline workers in healthcare, police, and security department, among others across the country. Other than this, over 150 PPE kits are being produced every day for the medical fraternity.

Before starting the work, these women volunteers undergo a mandatory thermal screening on a daily basis. They are getting more orders from various pharma agencies and these brave hearts have been able to sustain a decent and steady income.
