Reskilling has become a critical aspect of employment in a country like India. Handicapped by a formal education system that hardly exposes students to real-world experiences and training, most graduates struggle to find gainful employment. Despite having degrees, a majority are condemned to endless job hunts due to lack of digital skills, before picking up menial jobs that are neither self-sufficient nor sustainable. Infosys Springboard,
The flagship reskilling programme of global tech giant Infosys, announced that it was catering to over 1.2 million digital learners in just a 100 days. Launched in September last year, the programme offers free online learning courses to promote the development of technical skillsets needed in today’s world.
The initiative focuses on the honing of existing skills and development of critical skills that will enhance the employability of the beneficiaries. Infosys Springboard has partnered with over 700 plus educational institutions and the state education departments of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh to realize this goal.
As part of the programme, students are exposed to corporate level learning experience which is aligned with the National Education Policy 2022. This ensures that the educator-learner interaction is productive and prepares the learner for the future. The initiative also leverages Infosys’ rich legacy in employee and broad-based student competency development to strengthen industry-academia synergy.
The programme also offers internships to students who have completed their Plus Two studies. By engaging students at a critical juncture, the programme will help them develop critical thinking skills.
Commenting on the initiative, Nilanjan Roy, Chief Financial Officer at Infosys, said that with the advent of the fourth industrial revolution it has become critical for the emerging workforce to “develop new and varied capabilities, especially digital skills”.
Thirumala Arohi, Senior Vice President and Head – Education, Training and Assessment at Infosys, also stressed on the urgent need to nurture digital capabilities among students, employees and local communities.
“As part of our ongoing ESG commitment to bridge the digital divide, Infosys Springboard is democratizing digital learning, preparing more aspirants to explore emerging opportunities and equipping working professionals to flourish in the jobs of the future. The over 1.2 million, and still growing, learners benefiting from Infosys Springboard inspire us to redouble our efforts to help navigate India into the digital future,” he opined.
