FedEx Corp’s subsidiary to support 400 small businesses led by women

After identifying women who had previously operated a small business, the FedEx Express in India and United Way Mumbai are providing the resources to help them re-establish their businesses.

One of the largest express transportation companies, FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp has braced up to support more than 400 small businesses led by women. These businesses operate across Maharashtra and have been impacted by Covid-19 pandemic. The company will provide key resources to all of the 400 companies through this newly-launched initiative.

After identifying women who had previously operated a small business, the FedEx Express in India and nonprofit organization United Way Mumbai are providing the resources to help them re-establish their businesses. Such an initiative is expected to help these women entrepreneurs achieve sustainability in the long run.

According to a report by Krea University, nearly half of the women-led businesses may never open again after closing during the pandemic. This highlights the need to support such businesses at the grass root level to help them sail through the testing times.

“FedEx is committed to driving Global Entrepreneurship as part of our global CSR initiatives. In India, we are providing advancement opportunities to women-owned small businesses by offering expanded access to the tools and resources,” said Vice President Operations for FedEx Express in India, Mohamad Sayegh, while talking about the recent development.

“Through the efforts of our team members and community partners, we are proud to create opportunities for these women-led small businesses,” he added.

This is not for the first time that FedEx Express has come with such an initiative. The company was quick to donate critical medical supplies to the local healthcare workers when the pandemic began last year.
