Essar Foundation And AGC Networks Join Hands To Promote Larger Inclusivity For Differently Abled

Essar’s CSR wing, Essar Foundation has partnered up with global tech company AGC Networks to better the lives of the differently abled. The collaboration will see several initiatives take root in the three states of Maharashtra, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

The partnership’s goal is to support and improve the quality of life of the differently abled through education and providing material aid as and when needed. The initiatives will also cover the disadvantaged and emaciated sections of the society.

Presently, 67 differently abled children are pursuing their education at Amar Jyoti School in Delhi and Gwailor with help from the two companies. The school is a part of the Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust and is the first of its kind to impart inclusive education to such children. The institution has several skill development centres to hone the innate skills of such children and introduce them to valuable skills like pottery, painting, tailoring, etc. Skill sets like these will enable them to find meaningful employment and provide them with life-long financial and social security.

The two organizations have gone a step further and donated wheelchairs to 27 differently abled patients undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AIIPMR), Mumbai. The wheelchairs are specially designed and customizable according to the user’s requirements and ensure maximum comfort without sacrificing mobility. This has the added benefit of imparting a sense of independence to the patients who had to previously depend on family members and staff for any physical movement.

Talking about the initiatives, Dominic Dsouza, COO, Essar Foundation, reiterated Essar’s commitment to provide inclusive education to all children . He said that these were the initial steps to the inclusion of differently abled children into the society. He also talked about the continuing support provided to the AIIPMR by the Essar Group and expressed hope that the initiative would be a source of much needed support to the patients.

Head Coordinator of the Wheelchair Initiative at AIIPMR, Dr. Anjana said, “This gesture on part of AGC Networks and ESSAR Foundation will be a life changing scenario and support to the patients and their family, many of whom have struggle to finance their long and painstaking treatments.”

Commenting on the partnership, Dominic Dsouza added, “We are very excited and grateful for this partnership since it has created a gateway to support the development of women and children and to be able to provide them with the necessary nutrition and healthcare, only gives us immense satisfaction and pride.”
