An education hub with at least 30 different educational institutes have been allotted land in the township, covering more than 150 acre of land, to set up the campuses in different parts of the township, coming up at Rajarhat New Town.
Officials of the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) said that while some top notch schools, colleges, universities and training institutes like Presidency University, St Xaviers University, Rabindra Bharati University are coming up with their second campuses, some institutes like the Aliah University and Techno India have already set up their campus and have started operating. Officials stated that more land could be allotted for setting up educational or training institutes.
According to Times of India, a HIDCO official stated , “Recently, another reputed university authorities had approached us, showing interest to have land in the township to set up their campus”. Authorities have also been allotting land to different institutes like Netaji Subhas Open University, Ganguly Educational Society, Bhawanipor Gujrati Education Society, IILM Foundation, WBSEDCL Staff Training Centre, State Government Vocational Institute, State Social Welfare School and others through e-tenders, with land ranging from two acres to 10 acres.
Besides, the authorities have marked a 20 acre land to set up a government medical college and a hospital. Officials said that tenders will be called again to invite applications for the project.
