Recent floods in Malaysia have caused damages estimated at 6.1 billion ringgits ($1.46 billion). Heavy rains in mid-December, 2021, caused severe flooding in many states which eventually devolved into a nationwide emergency.
Dozens of lives were lost while over 120,000 people were displaced in the floods. According to the Department of Statistics, damage to public infrastructure stood at 2 billion ringgits, with another 1.6 billion ringgits in damages to homes.
Daihatsu (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (DMSB), was one of the very first companies to roll out a special flood relief programme. The Malaysian arm of the Japanese automobile company launched an initiative to support affected customers across the country.
Daihatsu Flood Relief Program
The Daihatsu Flood Relief Program is open to all Daihatsu owners affected by the floods. The initiative was launched on December 22, 2021, and will continue till February 28, 2022 at all authorized Daihatsu service centres.
DMSB’s slogan, ‘Light You Up’, has been the guiding light for this relief programme. As part of the initiative, Daihatsu owners are eligible for up to 100 ringgits in Towing Service Subsidies per vehicle to the nearest authorized service centres.
Additionally, owners are entitled to 40 per cent off on selected Daihatsu Genuine Parts and 20 per cent off labour services. This includes Free Vehicle Inspection Services on selected Daihatsu genuine parts for engine and transmission overhauls.
Commenting on the initiative, Arman Mahadi, Managing Director of Daihatsu Malaysia Group, said that the company understands the damage caused to the economy by the floods especially for the transportation industry. “Our Daihatsu Flood Relief Program aims to prioritize the safety of all our users in order to increase fleet uptime and ensure the operational efficiency and profitability of businesses.”
Daihatsu Mobile Service teams will also be on call to assist customers facing vehicle issues. Onsite vehicle servicing will be offered to all customers, as per the customer’s convenience and time, subject to availability of a service team in the area.
The group is also organizing a relief donation drive for its employees. The Daihatsu Staff Flood Relief Donation Drive was arranged to aid flood-affected employees of the Group. A total of 30,000 Malaysian ringgits was donated which were disbursed amongst the affected Daihatsu personnel. “The Daihatsu Staff Flood Relief Donation Drive was put in place to allow our employees to contribute and provide a helping hand to our dear colleagues and their families,” Mahadi added.
