Axis Bank Foundation pledges its aid to impoverished households in rural Bihar

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has posed a gigantic nation-wide challenge for communities irrespective of their social status. In a bid to offer some degree of comfort to those who are struggling to make ends meet during this time of unprecedented crisis, Axis Bank Foundation has been offering all possible support and services to the people of the country.

Some of the worst affected sections of our society belong to the rural hinterlands which have always suffered from an acute shortage of resources. The Covid-19 pandemic has only made the situation worse, impacting the lives and livelihoods of the rural poor like never before. However, the Axis Bank Foundation came forward at the right time and quickly responded to the emerging needs of the communities.

In addition to its extensive array of banking solutions for its customers, Axis Bank, through its foundation has been reaching out to about 20,000 impoverished families in rural Bihar. Adhering to its core theme of sustainable livelihood, the Axis Bank Foundation has been focussing on enhancing livelihood opportunities for struggling communities, in addition to building resilience to manage uncertain situations.

The foundation has been working towards achieving this objective by leveraging on various welfare schemes brought forth by the state and the central governments. Several NGOs like Don Bosco Tech Society, Nav Bharat Jagruti Kendra, and Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (India) (AKRSPI) are assisting the foundation.

Jacob Ninan, ET & CEO, Axis Bank Foundation, while talking about ABF’s contribution towards India’s fight against Covid-19 pandemic, acknowledged the fact that the pandemic has created a huge chaos in everyone’s life, whether it’s the rich or poor. However, rural poor in states with development issues like Bihar are facing the brunt of it. He also pointed out that the influx of migrants has only made the matter worse.

“ABF is working with its NGO partners equip the people at the bottom of the pyramid to deal with the situation better.  As a responsible corporate organization, we have taken a few small steps to provide for a better standard of living to these deprived communities. We remain committed to increase our work in the State of Bihar,” Ninan said.
