When it comes to the world of computer gaming, the first thing that comes to mind is anything but carbon-free or carbon-neutral. Enjoyed by millions across the globe, gaming is one niche that can be utilized to propagate environment friendly practices and messages.
Swiss electronics giant, Logitech, has come up with a unique way to infuse this captivating world of computer games and eco-consciousness. The company has been working towards minimizing climate footprint and integrating environment friendly components in their products to achieve the same. Accordingly, Logitech has announced that all its ASTRO and Logitech G products would be made CarbonNeutral as per The CarbonNeutral Protocol.
The Protocol was created by Natural Capital Partners in 2002 and serves as the guiding light for businesses aiming for carbon neutrality. Logitech has gone one step above and introduced its own carbon impact label last year. The latest product to sport this label is the new Logitech G PRO Wireless Gaming Mouse, designed especially for e-sports. Six other products have also been earmarked to display the label, including the G213 Gaming Keyboard, G903 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse and G502 Hero Gaming Mouse.
Commenting on the initiative, Logitech’s Head of Global Operations & Sustainability, Prakash Arunkundrum said, “We want to use this as a way to hold ourselves accountable and ensure our design and engineering teams are working to improve these numbers and lower our carbon footprint with every new product.”
Incidentally, Logitech also came up with a carbon transparency campaign in June, 2020, which was an industry first. The carbon transparency program has been the backbone of Logitech’s CarbonNeutral initiative. The transparency process, including product carbon impact technology and measurement process, has been offered to the consumer electronics industry by Logitech in the hopes that an industry-wide change can commence.
For the company, however, this does not mean a shift in focus. Gaming accessories remains a priority for the tech firm. “We believe that life is more fun when you play,” said Ujesh Desai, General Manager, Logitech G. “That said we’re working hard to ensure when you play with our devices that they leave no impact on the world and that we’re all gaming for good.”
